I am an Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Furman University (Greenville, SC). I hold a Ph.D. in Bilingualism and Second Language Acquisition from Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ), an M.A. in Spanish from Auburn University (Auburn, AL), and a B.Ed. in English Language Teaching (TESOL) from Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal (Lima, Peru). I also obtained a graduate certificate in Cognitive Science from the Rutgers University Center for Cognitive Science. My experience teaching both English and Spanish as a second/foreign language inspired my interest in how L2 learners and bilinguals perceive, process, and acquire second language phonology. My most recent projects examined cross-language interactions in L2 speech segmentation, syllabification, and spoken word recognition.
