Majors: Spanish and Psychology | Minor: Linguistics

Research Interests: Psycholinguistics, language acquisition, phonetics

My interest in linguistics grew from my personal experience learning Spanish. I became increasingly curious about the process of language acquisition, how our native and learned languages influence each other, and how language works in general!
What I find most fascinating about linguistics is the concept that language is a complex, universal phenomenon that connects us all together and yet, simultaneously, is a mode through which we express our individuality, culture, and identity. Studying linguistics allows me to learn more about how both of these aspects of language function.

Highlights

  • For the past several summers, I have been a volunteer at English Crossing, an organization that offers free English lessons to immigrants and refugees. I served as a translator for Spanish-speaking students and helped teach the lessons. Learn more about it here.
  • I am currently working at Furman’s Writing and Media Lab, assisting students with brainstorming, outlining, or revising papers for their classes.
